History Fact:  Implemented by an Act of Congress in 1879 for government offices in Washington, and expanded to all Federal offices in 1885.  The Geneva Fire Department takes pride in remembering Founding Father, Statesman, General, and first U.S. President, George Washington.

History Fact:  First established as a Federal holiday in 1868 as "Decoration Day" to remember and honor the military personnel who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.  The name "Memorial Day" was first attested in 1882, and gradually became more common than Decoration Day after World War II.  Memorial Day became the official name in 1967, and the official observation was moved to the last Monday in May in 1968.

The Geneva Fire Department wishes to honor our brothers and sisters who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice to the defense of our Country.  You remain in our thoughts and prayers.  God Bless.

History Fact: Established by the Second Continental Congress to commemorate the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain in 1776.  Coincidentally, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, two signers of the Declaration of Independence and later U.S. Presidents, both died on July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary.  James Monroe, another Founding Father and elected as the 5th U.S. president, who served during the War of 1812 against Great Britain, also died on July 4 in 1831.  The Geneva Fire Department wishes you and your family a safe and happy Independence Day!  God Bless America!

Established in 1790 as the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service, as part of the Department of the Treasury.  The Geneva Vol. Fire Department wishes the U.S. Coast Guard a Happy Birthday!

History Fact: First established as a Federal Law in 1894.  The Geneva Fire Department wishes you a safe and relaxing Labor Day!

Founded as the U.S. Aeronautical Division of the U.S. Army Signal Corps in 1907, the modern U.S. Air Force was established in 1947.  The Geneva Vol. Fire Department wishes the U.S. Air Force a Happy Birthday!
