The Geneva Vol. Fire Department remembers all those we lost on September 11, 2001. Including 343 firefighters, and another 69 police and medical Responders.  They remain in our thoughts and Prayers.

    History Fact:  Implemented by an Act of Congress in 1879 for government offices in Washington, and expanded to all Federal offices in 1885.  The Geneva Fire Department takes pride in remembering Founding Father, Statesman, General, and first U.S. President, George Washington.

    History Fact:  First established as a Federal holiday in 1868 as "Decoration Day" to remember and honor the military personnel who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.  The name "Memorial Day" was first attested in 1882, and gradually became more common than Decoration Day after World War II.  Memorial Day became the official name in 1967, and the official observation was moved to the last Monday in May in 1968.

    The Geneva Fire Department wishes to honor our brothers and sisters who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice to the defense of our Country.  You remain in our thoughts and prayers.  God Bless.

    Established by the Second Continental Congress, the Army can trace it's heritage to the "First American Regiment" (modern 3rd Infantry Regiment) founding in 1775.  The Geneva Vol. Fire Department wishes the U.S. Army a Happy Birthday!

    History Fact: Established by the Second Continental Congress to commemorate the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain in 1776.  Coincidentally, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, two signers of the Declaration of Independence and later U.S. Presidents, both died on July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary.  James Monroe, another Founding Father and elected as the 5th U.S. president, who served during the War of 1812 against Great Britain, also died on July 4 in 1831.  The Geneva Fire Department wishes you and your family a safe and happy Independence Day!  God Bless America!
